In the French audio landscape, a new and poignant narrative is emerging. “Mon Odyssée”, the eight-episode podcast produced by Nouvelles Écoutes, offers an intimate window into a young girl’s struggle to free herself from an oppressive family environment and build a future of her own.

Lauren Oliel, both author and narrator, immerses us in her personal story with disarming authenticity. Born Lauren Déborah Shaya, she grows up in a family marked by divorce and the strict authority of her father. Her life, shaped by the demands of an orthodox Jewish school, follows a flawless, predetermined path—until an opportunity at the Conservatory offers her a space for expression and self-discovery.

"In 2009, I’m 15 years old and living a perfectly structured daily life. I divide my time between the ultra-religious Jewish school and doing my homework at my father’s place. Some days, I go to my mother’s. I like school and my life with my father and little brother, but it’s at the conservatory that I can finally breathe. In addition to attending single-sex classes, I’m allowed to sing. In front of girls and boys. Sing...."
